Spinal Stenosis, Low Back Pain, Hip Pain

The “odyssey” with my back began in late April of 2015 when I woke up one morning & could barely get out of bed because of the severity of my back pain. As the day progressed, the pain subsided to the point of being non-existent. I thought it was just a fluke thing so did not pursue medical attention.

About a week later, the same thing happened again! This time, since I was unable to see my primary care physician on short notice, I went to an urgent care clinic. X-rays were performed there & I was told that I had arthritis in my low back & hips. The doctor there told me that it was nothing to be concerned about given my age. I was prescribed a pain med & advised to schedule an appointment with my PCP.

I finally got an appointment with my PCP, who ordered a CT-scan. It showed that, in addition to the arthritis, I had spinal stenosis in my low back. She ordered physical therapy & referred me to a neurosurgeon, who ordered an MRI. It showed that the spinal stenosis was in my L4 & L5 vertebra.

During this time, not only was the pain in my low back/hips, it also was radiating down my right leg. I started going for massage therapy. The massage therapist suggested that, if all else failed, to go see Dr. Roth.

From that point forward, I did two stints in PT, three rounds of pain management injections & saw two neurosurgeons. One of the neurosurgeons did not think I was a good candidate “yet” for surgery, but the other felt that I was a good candidate. It was when I left that appointment that I remembered what the massage therapist had suggested about seeing Dr. Roth. Since the other treatments had not helped much &, for me, surgery was an absolute last resort, I thought “why not?”

My first appointment with Dr. Roth was in May of this year. I have just completed three months of three times a week visits. He also gave me at-home stretches to do. I feel so much better as a result! The radiating pain is gone! I still get mild back pain occasionally, but it is nothing like it was prior to when I started seeing him. I will continue to see Dr. Roth once a week & then, hopefully, graduate to twice a month visits.

In closing, I have high praise for what Dr. Roth has done for me. I would recommend him to anyone who is going through pain of the degree that I was. Also, I can’t write this without thanking Katlynn & Chrissy for their professionalism, helpfulness and friendliness. Thank you all for helping me!
